When LTA first opened the place was great. Loved going there. Now the past few visits it seems like every time we go the service gets worse and worse. Our orders are always getting messed up. Last time there everyone's food but mine came out and I waited an additional 10-15 min until they brought something out and the server said, "We're not going to make you pay for this. Its not your fault. It's just life." Well thank you mexican restaurant server for telling me that you messing up the order wasn't my fault. And guess what... what he gave me wasn't even what I ordered. While I loved the free meal I would just rather have my order with my friends and have the correct item. I've said something to the manager the last two times we were in about how he should let his servers know that their cell phones/tv shouldn't be their priority... but sadly I will have to say I will not be going back to LTA.

LTA, I hope that someday we can be friends, but for now, we're off to a rocky start. I had heard good things about some of the other locations of the restaurant, so I was excited when a friend planned a lunch meeting here. Since it was a business lunch, she paid, and honestly, I'm kinda of glad that I didn't pay for this food. It was some of the worst I've had in awhile. I love free chips, but the first basket were over-warmed/burnt. I was tempted to let it slide until another friend, joining us, said they just wouldn't do. Ok, chip basket fixed. On to the entree.... I ordered a chicken molé dish. The molé sauce at LTA had almost no flavor at all -- just brown and very watery. The chicken had a texture like it had been boiled for hours -- very rubbery and not appealing at all. I had an upset stomach for the rest of the day. I would probably give this place another chance if, say, some people from work were going for lunch. Perhaps a dish other than the chicken molé would be better? The look of the place is appealing, very clean with brightly painted wooden decor. Otherwise, I'm sorry Los Tres, but we're not really amigos.

A+ for atmosphere, but the food's ordinary. El Azteco totally beats out Los Tres any day of the week. At the West Saginaw location, the server seemed ... creepy. He kept eyeing me in this weird way. I sensed condescension. Why does everybody trip out when a solo diner comes in? Solo diners deserve the same great service as a couple or a group. Please remember that !

There's a lot of crappy food in the East Lansing area. Comparatively though, Los Tres Amigos is great. I get their Veggie Fajitas in all their sizzling glory. Yes, it's the only thing for me that's worth eating, but It never disappoints. Initially coming here after living in Chicago, I thought this place was decent, but after eating a lot of bad food in East Lansing, this place is looking a whole lot better.

Muy Bien! One of my Fav Mexican restaurants has finally opened in East Lansing! They have locations on the West & South side of lansing and in Jackson as well. Good times! Annyyways...the EL location is great cuz its close to my house AND they have a patio, which the other locations do not have. Went here on a beautiful sunny Sunday for an early dinner and a pitcher of Margaritas (don't worry, I shared). From a nice sunny spot on the patio, it is hard to not give this place high marks. The margaritas werent super strong, but got the job done. The food is always good and FYI they have great and super cheap lunch specials, some under $5. Great option for lunch or dinner at a cheap price.

Los Tres Amigos is a nice mexican restaurant. The building and atmosphere is new and festive; the food overall is very good. They have awesome fajitas, chips and salsa. Some of the other dishes I have gotten are just ok. It is definitely pricier than an El Azteco but the presentation and facility is nicer.

My wife and I had chicken faitas they were very good. The portion was enough to satisfie both us. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone with the Mexican at heart. Yummy.

Los Tres Amigos seemed like the usual neighborhood Mexican joint at first. Kitchy tables & booths, stereotypical music and soccer (ney-futbol) on TV. While The menu did appear to have all the usual Tex Mex options like burritos, chimichangas and the like there were several items which caught my eye. I ordered a kind of specialty Mexican stew in a salsa broth, three kinds of meat (shrimp, chicken and chorizo) cheese and hot peppers in a stone bowl. I was very pleased. The Chorizo was spicy without after-burn and the salsa broth complemented the other ingredients well.

Los Tres Amigos is one of my favorite restaurants in the East Lansing area. The ambiance of the place is incredible, the staff is helpful (although sometimes inattentive) and the food is delicious. Usually you get monstrous plates of food, so it's nice to be able to take it home and heat it up later. The food isn't quite spicy enough for me, but I also understand that I live in the Midwest, where people don't usually like spicy things, so for most people this would be a great level of spiciness. Overall, Los Tres gets an A.

I struggle trying to find good Mexican in Michigan. I know it isn't exactly a hotspot for the cuisine, and Los Tres is another example of a mediocre experience. We got sat right away but our server took several minutes to even greet us. Once he brought our drinks, we ordered guac and wings as appetizers. My guac came right out, but then the waiter disappeared for about 20 minutes. When the brought the wings, they looked really good - but they were SO spicy, they were almost inedible. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. It took over an hour for us to get burritos. I mean...it's a tortilla, meat, and beans. It should not take an hour. Our waiter didn't even come by to let us know until we had been sitting there for 45 minutes, looking around. The food was good, but when my fiance went to eat his leftovers the next day, he found some nasty crap in the meat....I shudder to think what it was.

I just cant do three stars but two is not enough. . Ill explain. . . The place is your typical mexican restaurant. I mean that in a good way music is as expected food is as well I just wished it was a little more that the norm. I had heard good things like it was the best you can get in east lansing which very well might be true and if so when i try more I will come upgrade the stars. The service is by far one of the fastest I have ever seen anywhere! They are quick to take your order and bring drinks but not much personality behind" what would you like to drink?" When you do order it is out before you can ask the rest of your party what they ordered:) They guy who brings it wears this awesome long glove , that was they best part of my time, I wanted to tip hip for bringing out 6 hot plates at a time on one arm! All in all it was a basic mexican food lunch with no real pazazz but I enjoyed my Fajita burrito and yes it was the best mexican food in town. Unfortunalty I am mexican and grew up in arizona so it still has a way to go. But there sure were alot of mexicans eating there so you know what they say . . If they ear eating there its gotta be good. After thinking about it yes they deserve 3 stars !

Don't waste your time if you are looking for good Mexican food; this place has terrible food and that is that. I have ate here twice and both times the food was sick. Chef Boyardee spaghetti sauce on my enchiladas? Get lost.

As an ardent lover of Americanized Mexican food, I'd like to think that I have some standards. I've been here two times and in both instances, I have ordered the chicken chimichanga. It comes with mexican rice, refried beans, pico, guac, sour cream, and lettuce. I feel it's an excellent value for the price and the quality of the food is phenomenal. Many other items don't come with every one of the sides I mentioned above so it's why I pick this entree. I'm definitely looking forward to trying other items on the menu before I overestimate the food here but their chimichanga is on point to whoever enjoys that item.

Not a place i will come to twice. A very stereotypical americanized "authentic mexican" restaurant. Really tacky, over done mexican theme decor. Jar salsa and grocery store quality chips. Everything tastes like it came straight out of a can or frozen package. Shredded iceberg lettuce and a wilted tomato slice is the freshest ingredients they use. No spices, nothing GOOD! I keep hoping somewhere in Metro Detroit there will open a Mexican restaurant that actually serves mexican food! THIS IS NOT IT!

The fajitas nachos and the margarita's are just perfection. I wish I came across it earlier in my MSU ventures because the food quality is just really good. I like that it was located right next to my apartment and had specials after 9. I'm not 100% sure they are still doing that but it was great and mostly the reason we would go to eat there before hitting up the bars.

Nothing special. The food was just average and prepared without much heart. Also it's quite expensive for the portion size.

Los Tres is my favorite Mexican restaurant in East Lansing! I ate here just about every week my last few years at MSU. If you want a great deal go after 8pm for half off appetizers. The Nachos Amigos are a delicious cheesy chicken bean mountain of amazingness! How can you beat half off Nachos?!?! Seriously I miss this place so much. I also enjoyed ordering their tortilla chicken soup and delicious fajitas. Their Margaritas were also deliciously boozy!

Worst Mexican restaurant I've ever eaten. YUCK! Waitress refilled our water and gave us the wrong cups back. They don't have Horchata... Food was terrible. If your thinking of going here DONT

I am gonna keep this short, sweet and sassy. The food was so-so, the service was slow-slow. To add insult to injury I have a feeling one of the employees stole my credit card number there as this was the only place out of the norm we had been to as we are not from that area. Coincidence or not, less then a week later I started seeing all of these fraudulent charges on my card. I am not 100% certain, but it is a gut feeling and usually my big ole' gut is spot on. Plus the place seemed overly shady.

We've eaten here twice. It's good Mexican-American food, though not a whole lot different than any other similar place. Good Sangria too. I like getting the combination plates and my daughter always gets fajitas. Then when our food comes out, I always regret not getting the fajitas! It's all good though--I'll just have to remember for next time ;) Pretty good service until we ordered our desert that we shared. It came and then our waiter just disappeared! My husband finally went to the cash register to pay. But still--it's not good to abandon your guests, so that's why I'm giving it 3 starts instead of 4.

Stay away if you are looking for authentic Mexican food. Hard shell tacos? No thanks, I'll walk myself to Taco Bell if that's what I wanted. The service was less than adequate. Their piña colada tasted like water and sugar. Just ew ew ew.

Not bad for typical Americanized Mexican food and better (fresher, not as heavy) than other nearby options like El Azteco. The "Molcajete" is a tasty chicken, chorizo & beef combo with charred jalapeños and a chunk of nopal cactus, all in a hot stone bowl, which keeps your food warm. Nice patio. Ideal for the MSU student crowd in search of cheap drinks & filling food that tastes better than most anything else in the mediocre restaurant-land that is East Lansing. Service is friendly but not top notch.

It's stereotypical Mexican, not authentic. The food is ok, the service is so-so and the atmo is palmy.

Our service was really poor, but the food was pretty good and the man working the register sorted out an error by out sever, so we left happy.

The food here is some of the best Mexican food I have ever had (and I am a frequent of Mexican Town in Detroit). The food will keep you coming back every night. However, the service can be slow sometimes so make sure to factor in an extra half hour just in case...

  • Huyen V.

Los Tres is probably the best mexican food you can get on campus. I've learned my lesson and will never go to a different mexican place on campus except Los Tres. Like REALLLY... The waiters are nice but can sometimes be slow on busy days and nights but I think its definitely worth the wait. The portion sizes are pretty big. I ordered the chicken fajitas and the portions could probably feed 2 people. The food especially the fajitas definitely don't lack flavor. They use to give you unlimited chips and salsa but now they charge $2 if you want extra. The salsa is really to die for, it is very fresh and tasty. The prices are decent for the amount they give you.

Definitely a solid Mexican joint. I can't give it five stars, because it's not at the level that places in Mexicantown, Detroit are at. However, their enchiladas are quite solid and tasty, their chips and salsa were definitely solid and tasted fresh, and they have a fine array of Mexican beers on draft. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a good Mexican place in the area.

For Mexican food near MSU's campus, I prefer Los Tres over the Americanized Mexican fast food chains that have infiltrated downtown EL such as Panchero's, Chipotle, Taco Bell, Moe's, QDoba, etc. It at least attempts to be more authentic and can obviously provide more of a dining experience. Convenient location - When my husband used to live in Cedar Village back while we started dating, we saw this place go up and crossed our fingers that it would actually withstand the transient community. Now as alumni, we tend to revisit this familiar spot because it's right on Grand River and actually has free parking. Over-the-top atmosphere - Bordering on cheesy, the restaurant screams with bright colors and exaggerated decor, but my friends and I love coming here when it's warm out so we can take advantage of the large patio space. Decent food for the price - I've tried a little bit of everything over the years from the extensive menu. Here are my personal highlights: *Complementary basket of warm tortilla chips and bottle of salsa *Margaritas on special, especially the tangy frozen strawberry *Piping hot fajitas with a mix of proteins that include plump shrimp, tender chicken, sliced steak that sop up the marinade and juices from the sauteed onion and peppers + a plate of the usual sides of rice, refried beans, guac, sour cream, salsa, lettuce and tortillas = filling meal *Combo plates are super affordable with HUGE portions - perfect for the struggling college student or recent grad Biggest downer- Service has usually been slow and inconsistent. Oftentimes, I've had to wait for orders longer than necessary or the orders came out incorrectly Most recently, my husband and I ordered beers with our food, which never came. My friend ordered jalapenos on his dish that went on to someone else's who detests spicy food. And another friend ordered a chicken taco salad but got steak instead.

Oh Los Tres, How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.... I just want to preface this with the fact that I love THIS los tres, the others in the area do not even come close. Every time we visit I tend to always make a stop here. The service is always quick, and the food is always hot and tastey. Unlike other mexican places, we do receive a decent amount of salsa and chips. Other places I've been at are fairly cheap with doling out the goods. The taco shells are rather crisp and there's never an issue with meat/juice seeping through the shell.

Food was okay nothing to impressive pork was some what flavorless. My server was preoccupied with some friends so she was kinda slow.

When I think of the areas best Mexican food, Los Tres is the place I name off. Although I've eaten here only about five times now in the past few years, each time the food is great and I've never had an issue with the service. The location I visit most often is the one located near the Lansing Mall and they have outdoor seating which is nice. The food quality is fantastic, good flavors, hot and fresh and the free chips and salsa is a plus. Thank you Los Tres for being my premier Mexican restaurant choice!

Good service. Food was ok, nothing spectacular. It was one of the only places open in downtown Lansing on a Thursday evening. We both ordered enchiladas. I've definitely had better, but no complaints. The staff was really nice.

Seems like cheese was added to everything. Our meals were cold and the rice was stuck together like sushi. Not the best ever but there's nothing around.

I have three words.... Gringo Gringo Gringo No spice. Bland... The other members of my group said it was really good, so I added a star for them. I guess I am spoiled in AZ. It was not gross, but I personally would not go back unless I was overruled on the decision where to eat.

Good food at a good price. Make sure you ask for red sauce if you want it though! Other than that I have never had a bad experience with Los Tres. Dollar Beers and Dollar Tacos....'nough said.

I'm giving Los Tres four stars for one reason. Cheap drinks...and I'm talking really cheap. Fourteen ounce beers are .99 and margaritas are $2.50 Monday through Thursday. On Mondays they also have .99 beef tacos. For the sake of my liver, I had a burrito in between margaritas and beer and I was thoroughly unimpressed. The chicken inside the burrito was good, but the burrito had this really weird brownish sauce that just killed it for me. Not only did it taste funny, but I had to eat the burrito with a fork. Mind you, burritos should never be eaten with a fork. If I wanted to eat Mexican food with a fork I would have gotten a chimichanga or taco salad. And for the record, I didn't eat the burrito with a fork because it big, in fact it was quite measly. The reason I had to resort to using cutlery was because the stupid sauce would have gotten all over my hands and having sauce all over my fingers would have been gross. I do give Los Tres credit though, the burrito was only $4.50 so it's not like they are running some sort of scam. I mean come on, what kind of scam is .99 cent fourteen ounce beers and the most delicious margaritas ever for $2.50? Whatever they're doing, they are my spot when I need a middle of the week pick-me-up.

    (4)
  • Dave S.

$.99 BEERS!!! MUY MUY Bueno! I mean $1 pints Sunday-Thursday, how do you beat that? I've been here 2 or 3 times and have had a good experience each time. 1 - The food is priced right. Most meals and combos are under $10. 2 - The chips and salsa are very enjoyable 3 - The portions are sized right. They don't skimp and they don't try to throw as much slop on a plate as they can fit. 4 - Great patio when the weather is right. Well shaded so even on a hot day it is doable. I will say that in my most recent visit, the service could have been better. The guy was just average and maybe even a little slow at times but nothing unbearable, he just didn't "wow" me. If you're in the mood for mexican in East Lansing, take a trip to Los Tres .

  • Kent L.

One of my favorite Mexican restaurants. The westside location is equally good. East Lansing decor is a bit kitschy, but fun. Favorite dish is the Enchiladas Suizas. Fresh, not too cheesy. Avoid the "fake" cheese sauce they put on a few of the dishes. Makes my tummy hurt! Chips are light and crispy (no, I don't mean lowfat). Salsa a bit soupy, but delicious. Not sure where all the Spanish-speaking (primary language) waitsaff come from, but sure makes you appreciate the diversity of the region.

    (4)
  • Serge M.

Terrible. The waiter suggested I go with the shrimp enchiladas. They were covered with a thick green chili sauce. The whole dish was really yucky. We were trying to have a nice time with a party of four. Everyone was dissapointed with the food. $48 for a whole lot of garbage.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
